Need a new Skateboard

Skateboarding has been one of the most popular outdoor sports since quite few years now. Many of them treat it as fun activities that bring friends together who have a zest for life. Many skateboarding fans are intimidated with the number of options available in the market and have problem in choosing one that is suitable for them. the main criteria is however to choose a right source to purchase from.

Be wise and choose the site that has a wide range of products as per your taste. Well researched information is very crucial in buying skateboards. Any good website should offer you a wide range of choices of skateboards and accessories. When buying a skateboard for the first time try and buy a skateboard which have a slight concave as you will find the more advanced skateboards which have a very deep concave will be hard to control and dont tend to last long if your just starting out. I would also opt for a complete skateboard, with trucks, wheels, bearings and griptape.
The great thing about skateboarding, once you have your first skateboard is how customisable they are…. You can change your wheels, bearings, boards, trucks and swap them between different setups. If you take skateboarding up big time, you’ll soon have your own collection of skateboard parts to suite every occasion.

Boards
The most common boards are made of layers of maple wood, cross laminated to form a strong durable board, but there are some boards made from fibreglass, bamboo, resin, Kevlar, carbon fibre, aluminium, and plastic which have various benefits from lighter weight or stronger and more flexible. If your thinking about skateboarding on ramps try a wider board which offers more stability, the thinner boards are best for urban tricks.

Trucks
Not going into to much detail, the truck are what attach your wheels to the board. There are various types available, made from various types of material. The trucks will absorb the majority of the stresses and strains involved in skateboarding, so its advisable to spend a little money and buy a good set of trucks as the cheaper versions will break quite quickly.

Wheels
Usually made of polyurethane and come if various different sizes and material softness. The larger wheels will roll faster and make for a softer ride while using smaller wheels will reduce your top speed they will lower the board to the ground giving more stability. Wheel size range from 65-90mm for large and between 48-54mm for the smaller wheels. Wheels also have different softness’s, measured in the durometer ‘A’ scale which goes from 75a (very soft) to 101a(very hard). You may find some wheels using the B and D durometer scale but it works the same (the higher the number the harder the compound). The larger wheels work best for vert skating and the smaller wheels are best for urban tricks like kickflips. The wheel hardness is up to you but to start out I would opt for something in the middle….

Bearings
Each wheel attached to the trucks requires two bearings each. There are many manufacturers of wheel bearings and quite a few which specialise in bearings for skateboards. The bearings are rated by the ABEC scale, ranging from 1 to 9 but this is no indication that they are better than the other as the forces applied to the bearings whilst used in a skateboard are not measured un the ABEC scales… This again is to your own preference and I’m sure you will not go wrong buying some medium priced bearings.

Grip Tape
The grip tape is placed on the top of the board and keeps your feet from sliding of. There is a full rage of different types of grip tape available but the main difference between grip tapes are colour and design… This part has much to do with the actual look than anything else, there are many colours patterns and designs available all to your own preference.

With all the above information, I’m sure you’re pretty much ready to purchase your first skateboard and get started. One thing to mention before you do, Safety…. Skateboarding can be quite dangerous at the best of times so using a helmet at all times is advisable also the use of knee pads and elbow pads as your will suffer without. Other items to consider are wrist support and I highly recommend you use them as much as your helmet….
